How to Completely Delete BuddyPress From Your WordPress Site

So maybe you tried BuddyPress and it just wasn’t what you needed. It’s great to experiment, but now you want to completely remove it from your site. Unfortunately, this is no small task. In this tutorial we’ll walk you through the process of completely removing all traces of BuddyPress from your WordPress site.

Step 1: Deactivate and Delete all plugins that require BuddyPress.

There are a few reasons for this. If you delete BuddyPress before the plugins that depend on it, you can get blank pages and break your site if the plugin isn’t using BuddyPress best practices. Also, you’ll no longer need the plugins that can’t run without BuddyPress, so it’s best to delete them to avoid your site becoming bloated with unnecessary plugins.

Step 2: If you’re using a BuddyPress-specific theme, deactivate it and activate a regular WordPress theme.

This step will help you to avoid white pages when you deactivate the BuddyPress plugin.

Step 3: Deactivate BuddyPress and Delete the plugin files.

Now you should be safe to deactivate BuddyPress. Delete all of its files after you’ve deactivated it. You should be able to do this by clicking on the delete button when it appears in your deactivated plugins list.

Step 4: Remove all BuddyPress tables from your database.

This step is more advanced and should not be attempted unless you are comfortable using PHPMyAdmin. It is the only way to completely remove BuddyPress from your site. Make sure you make a backup of your site before doing anything to your database. If you make a mistake in there you can screw everything up forever.
Open up your WordPress database using phpMyAdmin. Remove all of the tables that start with the wp_bp_ prefix. Here’s a screenshot, courtesy of the BuddyPress codex:

Check all the tables with the BuddyPress prefix and then select “Drop Tables” from the drop down at the bottom. Click go.
If you’ve completed all of these steps, then you have removed every last trace of BuddyPress from your WordPress site. Reward yourself with a beer. :)
